Hi everyone! My name is Clint and I have always been Pro-Life. My mom instilled strong morals in me from the very beginning and has always been the best example of a faithful Christian that I have known. I was blessed to witness my great-grandmother at age 99 fighting to attend church services every chance she got and continuing to teach Bible classes at her retirement home. She never complained about being sick or her physical ailments- she just wanted to be in church!
My understanding of the scriptures taught me the intrinsic worth of all human life. I've read Ecclesiastes 11:5, Job 10:11-12, and Psalm 139:13-16. These passages make it abundantly clear that there is no difference between a child in the womb or outside of the womb. Did you know that under the Old Law, harming a child in the womb could bring the death penalty to the person who harmed the child? Exodus 21:22-25 says that "if any lasting harm follows (to the child in the womb), then you shall give life for life…". This is serious stuff and it's clear that God is serious about it.
While I had always believed that abortion was wrong, I did not have the chance to put those beliefs into action until late 2008. In March of '08 I was elected leader of a student organization at UT (The Young Conservatives of Texas). In December, some girl started asking me about meeting with her and learning about her cause. I was used to this sort of thing and 99% of the time the groups supported things I didn't agree with. When I was able to meet with Elizabeth McClung, I was completely unprepared for what she had to say. She was confident and inspirational and described 40 days in such simple terms. This was nothing like the other groups I had met with- this was a cause we could support. I remember thinking, "Why haven't I heard of this and why didn't I think of it?!"
I knew I had to get involved as best I could and my only regret is that I couldn't do more. I tried to get as many people from my group to volunteer as possible and give contact information for other groups around Austin. I was truly blessed by the time I spent on the sidewalks that March ('09). I hope to continue to be a part of 40 days for as long as I am able. I believe in the power of prayer and know that through God all things are possible.
"Rejoice always; pray without ceasing; in everything give thanks; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus." -II Thess. 5:16-18
