As I began my shift outside the abortion clinic yesterday, I felt unusually nervous and keenly aware of my weakness as a sidewalk counselor. I prayed for God's strength, that He would speak through me words of life. II Corinthians 12:9: "And He said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.'"
When a car pulled into the driveway, I approached with a smile and brochures, which the driver, a man, accepted eagerly. I told him and the two women in the car about the free services available at pregnancy centers and the dangers of even going inside of a business that kills babies. I offered to take them to a pregnancy center, but they said they must get inside for their appointment. I encouraged them to come back and talk to me when they could. Proverbs 24:11: "Deliver those who are drawn toward death, and hold back those stumbling to the slaughter. "
They drove on into the parking lot, but then came straight out the other driveway and asked me if I could take them to the pregnancy center right away! I eagerly agreed, and my fellow sidewalk counselor Chat drove me to Grace Family Resource Center, with our new friends following in their car. On the way, I called the center to verify that they were open, but the door was still locked when we got there. Calling again, I was told that someone was still on the way to open the door, so I talked outside for a few minutes with the two ladies — a pregnant young girl named Ashley and her mother. At the exact moment when they stood up to return to the abortion clinic, the pregnancy center door was unlocked and they agreed to come inside. Psalm 31:15: "My times are in Your hand."
At the pregnancy center, Ashley and her mother and grandfather spoke with me, with the ladies at the center, and with the pastor of the church that hosts the center. We shared with them truths about unborn life, and they decided against aborting Ashley's baby! Best of all, Pastor Abraham shared the gospel with them, and all three professed faith and prayed to receive Jesus Christ as their Savior! Romans 10:9: "If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved."
After two hours, Ashley, her mother, and her grandfather left the center with hugs, tears, and many thanks — and with a bagful of baby clothes. Pastor Abraham will visit them periodically to build up and check the sincerity of their faith, and the center will provide support throughout Ashley's pregnancy and beyond. May our Lord Jesus Christ receive all the glory for saving (as far as we can tell) one physical life and three spiritual lives through this encounter! Psalm 115:1: "Not unto us, O Lord, not unto us, but to Your name give glory, because of Your mercy, because of Your truth."
